Shenandoah Valley Jr/Sr High School Announcements March 2, 2010

The following Advisory classes should report to the auditorium today: Mrs. Taylors, Mrs. Boyer’s and Mr. Cuffs.


This week is the “Last Call” to turn in Baby Pictures and directories for the yearbook. If they are not turned in to Mrs. Taylor by the end of the week, they will not be included. Yearbook meetings this week will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday after school.

Ski trips this week are Wednesday and Thursday. Meet at 3:15 in front of high school.

Spelling Bee practice today.

Talent Search students will meet with Miss Fritz on Friday March 12th to make up for last Friday’s meeting.

All National Honor Society candidates must have their Bio’s back to Mrs. Ashford or Mrs. Tite by today.

There will be a brief meeting for the National Honor Society on Wednesday March 3rd during Advisory Period.

Schuylkill Technology centers both North and South will host an open house on March 24 from 6-8p.m. Anyone interested in exploring vo-tech should attend to explore their options!

Any student playing Spring Sports must have had a physical. If you intend to play and have not yet had your physical please sign up in the Nursing Office. Physicals will be March 4th.

A $750.00 scholarship sponsored by the South Schuylkill Garden Club is available to eligible Schuylkill County High School residents who plan to further their education in horticulture, conservation, forestry, environmental control and city planning. The deadline is March 31st. Please see Mrs. Chitalia for more information.

Pennsylvania State Police Youth Week will be held June 13-19. This is a 6-day camp used to introduce students in all procedures of law enforcement. Any female or male student that is physically fit and completed 10th,11th, or 12th grade is eligible. The fee is $125.00. For more information go to or more info is in the Guidance Office.

The Lithuanian Women’s Club of Schuylkill County is offering a $1,000 scholarship to be awarded over a 4 year period to a female student with Lithuanian ancestry. A brief essay is required why you should be awarded the scholarship and your Lithuanian background. Applications must be postmarked by March 31st.

The American Society of Highway Engineer’s is awarding 2 $1,000 scholarships for students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Civil and Construction Engineering Technology. Applications are in the Guidance Office and are due by April 16th.

Summer Work Program pre-applications for students ages 14-21 can participate in a summer work experience through RedCo. The Academic Career Enhancement is available for 6 to 8 weeks for academic remediation and career exploration. The Worksmart program is available for Special Needs students. Information for the 3 programs is available in the Guidance Office.
